Each week, there is so much progress. I am very excited to see the project at this state - almost ready to move in. It will be a real treat to see the building dedicated to the work of the Lord and to the needs of the people of Haiti.
This is just a quick update on the project. Progress continues at a quick pace. However, we are now in danger of being slowed down by the availability of raw materials. Sand at the moment. Please pray that we can find the necessary materials easily and finish the remaining work.
We have a team of plumbers here last week and for the next two weeks. They are professional plumbers and they are here to finish the construction and installation of our water systems including greywater treatment, pumps, septic and water collection. The progress has been fantastic. As I am writing this, I realize that I am missing a couple of key photos that I would like to share - perhaps another post.
The picture below is of the septic and grey water tanks. the area is 12m x 6m. Those are tanks! The construction style is stone walls for strength. These are then parged and finished/polished with a concrete finish for durability and of course water proof. The same process is used for constructing our water tanks. I realize that this process is much different than we would do in Canada. The approach is very labor intensive, however the economics are also much different here than in Canada. The walls have been started, on the left is the larger septic tank an on the right is the smaller grey water tank. The plumbing has been installed in the floor and the rebar is in place. We are ready to pour the concrete floor.
We have been busy, a week ago, our team from Elora/Fergus left after a very short (1 week) visit and what accomplishments they made. Painting and the construction of our circular staircase from the 1st to the 2nd floor. Yesterday, we removed the forms. A little cleanup to do in the area and of course some finishing work. The results are awesome. You can see my post on my website here on the construction of the basement staircase. Also awesome. Hard to believe, but they've surpassed themselves!
The picture below is of the final project. All the forms are not yet removed. I guess that I missed the end of day photo. Our carpenter is inspecting and trying to figure just how that middle part comes apart. I think that I've already provided a few instructions, but likely time to give him a refresher. The view is from the top looking down. I will give another post shortly (hopefully over the weekend) on this project.
